Southern Peninsula

This live camera shows Þorbjörn in Southern Peninsula, Iceland.

The Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland has been highly active volcanically in recent months, with the latest eruption starting on November 20, 2024. The Icelandic Meteorological Office has been monitoring the situation closely, reporting that although there is no immediate risk to air travel, gas emissions could impact certain areas of the peninsula, including Grindavík.

Southern Peninsula is an administrative unit and part of Reykjanesskagi (pronounced [ˈreiːcaˌnɛsˌskaijɪ]), or Reykjanes Peninsula, a region in southwest Iceland. It was named after Reykjanes, the southwestern tip of Reykjanesskagi.

Þorbjörn is a 243 m high volcanic mountain next to the town of Grindavík (Gullbringusýsla) on Reykjanes peninsula, Iceland. Blue Lagoon can be easily seen from the summit.
